Imaginative Education at MultiLab

Introduction to Imaginative Education: theory, examples, and possible application at MultiLab

In the light of fostering interdisciplinaryresearch on embodiment and imagination, MultiLabhosts a workshop on Imaginative Educationwith Dr. Gillian Judson and Prof. Hans U. Fuchs.

Dr. Judson's talk will focus on the concept of “perfinking”to reflect upon imagination and its importance in education. She will also showhow imagination can be nurtured starting from the basic assumptions of ImaginativeEducation theory (IE), developed by educational philosopher Kieran Egan.

IE works on a set of “cognitive tools”, such asnarrations, metaphors and embodied simulations, that influence the ways inwhich children’s imaginative understanding grows and changes within the socialand cultural context in which they find themselves. In his talk, Prof. Fuchswill focus on the use of these cognitive tools for teaching physics inpre-school and primary school.
