Mindfulness in Organizations

RESEARCH SEMINAR

Mindfulness has emerged as an active area of both organizationalscholarship and practice. Yet, important questions remain as to the nature,causes, consequences, and boundary conditions of mindfulness at work. In thisResearch Seminar, I will try to accomplish three objectives. 1) First, I willprovide a brief introduction to the concept and practice of mindfulness, withemphasis on its role in the workplace. 2) Second, interruptions are common andhave some negative consequences for productivity and wellbeing. I will shareresults from a current research project examining whether mindfulness can bufferemployees from the negative cognitive and affective effects of interruptions.3) Third, I will briefly share encouraging results from a study on a novelmindfulness-based undergraduate course offered at Singapore ManagementUniversity, called the Science and Practice of Mindfulness at Work
