Thesis

The objective of the thesis is to describe the reality or realities in which the student carried out the internship, the activities they performed and the skills they acquired. The thesis may contain images, graphs, photos or drawings that contribute to achieve the objective. 

The students are kindly invited to implement a discussion of the topics they faced during the internship activities. Combining the skills acquired during the lectures and the skills acquired during the internship, the students should demonstrate professional maturity and develop autonomous judgments, showing autonomous abilities of analyzing working challenges through problem-solving applied approaches. 

It is recommended to get the permission from the host organization for any use or publication of any company material (photos, names, data or images). 

Layout and language

Language:

The final thesis may be written in Italian, English or German. 

Formatting:

  • Character type: Tahoma
  • Font size: 12
  • Line spacing: Single
  • Alignment: Justified
  • Number of pages: About 50 pages

Content and structure of the thesis:

  • Front page: The front page must contain the name of the faculty, the degree course, the academic year, the title of the thesis, the name of the student, the name of the supervisor and, if applicable, the co-supervisor. You can download here the front page:
  • Table of contents of the thesis
  • List of figures (optional)
  • List of tables (optional)
  • Abstract: Brief description of the paper, max 1/2 page
  • Introduction: Summary of the internship experience, indicating the field in which it took place, the timing and the objectives. In case the student has carried out the internship in two (or more) different companies, the introduction should summarize all experiences. 

INTERNSHIP IN A COMPANY 1 (title to be inserted only if the student carried out the internship in two (or more) different companies) 

  • Context: Description of the host company and the company department(s) in which the internship took place (brief history of the company, description of the location, main activities, organizational structure, etc.). Please avoid to insert advertising materials.
  • Internship experience
    • Project: Description of the internship project, its objectives, the activities carried out, the organisation of work, the project team and its role. 
    • Materials and methods: Description of software and/or equipment used during the placement, any training received in their use, any research carried out and/or materials consulted. 
    • Results achieved 
  • Main skills acquired: Brief description of the skills acquired in the practical and theoretical fields. 

INTERNSHIP IN COMPANY 2 (if applicable)  Use the same approach as for company 1 (context, work experience, main skills acquired). 

  • Conclusions: Final observations and evaluations on the internship experience and on the improvement of one's knowledge and skills. In case the student has carried out the internship in two (or more) different companies, the conclusions should refer to all experiences.

Tables and figures 

All tables and figures must be numbered, placed close to the text to which they refer and accompanied by a brief description. 

Rules for citations and numerical references 

The following rule for citing bibliographical references should be followed in the text: 

  • one author – (Doniger, 1999) 
  • two authors – (Cowlishaw and Dunbar, 2000) 
  • three or more authors – (Doniger et al., 1999)

In the Bibliography chapter (at the end of the thesis) give the bibliographic references as follows:
