The call of science: MICRO4FOOD is looking for volunteers!

Do you feel like taking part in a European Project on the effect of probiotics on gluten digestibility? Wanted are men and women between 18 and 50.

The MICRO4FOOD lab at the NOI Techpark is urgently looking for 30 volunteers willing to be part of a study carried out by Professors Marco Gobbetti and Raffaella Di Cagno and their research team. 30 of them have already expressed their interest but, in order to have a larger and more representative sample, the scientists need 30 more.

Here is how the collaboration works: it will last about 40 days regular, starting in fall 2020 (September/October). Each participant, followed by a gastroenterologist, will have to take controlled doses of gluten provided by the laboratory and then donate a fecal and urine sample once every two days (the lab is going to provide every tool needed for sampling).

Wanted are: men and women between 18 and 50 - from the Bolzano-Bozen area - with an omnivorous or vegetarian diet, who do not make regular use of medicines or use probiotics and prebiotics, have not taken antibiotics in the 3 months prior to the start of the study, are in good health and have no evidence of intestinal diseases nor are breastfeeding or pregnant. Participants will also receive a modest reward (to help them out with the additional costs related to the purchase of food without gluten).

All people interested in joining the project or having more information can contact researcher Andrea Polo.
