Changes in urban mobility and their impact on rural tourism regions
Workshop discussion with experts from various disciplines
In a workshop discussion conducted on 16 and 17 May in Innsbruck, a small circle of experts discussed the transition in mobility. The growth of urban areas due to rising population numbers is increasing the pressure on the existing transport systems. At the same time, there is a desire to make mobility more environmentally friendly in the future, and new technologies such as autonomous vehicles, electromobility or air taxis offer a wide variety of possibilities to change and improve the mobility offer. Nevertheless, it can also be expected that in sparsely populated, rural areas, the offers will be less comprehensive, or even in tourism regions with pronounced seasonality or special topography, problems can arise in planning. Experts from different disciplines such as transport planning, sustainable tourism, political science and the automotive industry, from Germany, Austria and Italy, had been invited.
