Bike mobility in Bruneck - Brunico

Results of the Bruneck - Brunico bike survey published

Results of the bike survey in Bruneck -Brunico, carried out between February and March 2022 by the Competence Centre Tourism and Mobility of the Free University of Bolzano, are now available for download (only German).
The main topics of the survey were related to general mobility indicators of the participants, need for improvement of the existing bicycle infrastructure, as well as the evaluationof the bicycle lane along the inner city main road “Graben” in Brunico.

Key results at a glance:
- High levels of bicycle and car ownership in surveyed households.
- Households with multiple cars use bicycles significantly less often.
- E-bikes have not yet penetrated the market, but are gaining ground.
- Clear distinction of mobility user types. Weather (precipitation and temperature) plays a significant role in modechoice.
- Over fifty percent of cyclists use the bike lane along the Graben; most common reason for non-users are safety issues.
- Non-cyclists have a far more critically opinion about the bike lane than cyclists.
- There is a need for upgrading existing bicycle infrastructure, especially in terms of the number and type of parking facilities as well as continuous bike path connections to surrounding communities.

We would like to thank all participants(More than 1,000 questionnaires were completed)!
