The newly published volume, edited by Elisabeth Tauber and Dorothy Zinn, follows the tracks of Bronislaw Malinowski in Alpine anthropology.

Despite not having worked directly on the Alps, Malinowski nonetheless left traces through the works of other anthropologists and ethnographers exploring Alpine culture. One of them is an almost forgotten pioneer of ethnographic research in the Alps, Lucy Varga, whose essays were published in France in the 1930s and are translated and discussed in this volume, which also contains contributions by Patrick Burke, Lucy Ulrich, Paolo Viazzo, Margareth Lanzinger, Peter Schöttler, Daniela Salvucci, and Antonino Colajanni.
